Stationary Pluto
The Full Moon in Scorpio on May 1, 2026 is ruled by a very powerful, stationary Pluto.
At this time, and in this Full Moon chart, Pluto is unmoving, stationary at 5° Aquarius until it turns retrograde on May 6th. It will be exactly at 5°Aquarius30’ from April 30 to May 17th. That’s 18 days hovering in one location in the sky. 18 days of wading in the shadows, confronting our own power, taking responsibility in the co-creation of our lives.
Then Pluto starts to move retrograde to a point where it was back in January of this year.
This current retrograde cycle began on January 11, 2026, at 3°Aquarius04’ with the retrograde starting on May 6th at 5°Aquarius30’. Retrograde ends on October 15th, and Pluto clears the shadow territory on February 6, 2027. At which point it’s already started its next cycle, going from 4°Aquarius44’ (yes: 444) to 7°Aquarius10’.
Stationary Retrograde
First, remember that we are always in motion. No planet actually stops in its orbit or turns around, including us here on Earth. A planet’s retrograde cycle is when its orbit and the Earth’s orbit align, and one or the other planet overtakes the other in speed and then ultimately catches up.
It’s sort of like when you’re driving on the freeway, and you see that there’s an accident up ahead. As you drive towards the accident, it feels like it’s coming to you. In the moments as you pass the accident, time slows down. You take in all the details, you feel all the feelings - shock, sadness, relief - you create a story of what happened, you make meaning, maybe even learn a lesson. Then you drive off, picking up speed, and the accident is left behind in your review mirror, but you can still see it and feel its effects. You are changed.
The most important part is the drive by time when time is at a standstill and the energy has nowhere to go; it amplifies in its stillness. That’s a planet without motion.
Powerful, expansive, electrified.
So: Pluto.
Pluto signifies Power, Transformation, Birth, Death. Sexual energy. Nuclear energy. Poison. Criminality. Decay and Decadence. Demons and Dictators. The Underworld and anything underneath the Earth - Cemeteries and Gravesites, Archeological Sites, Catacombs, Volcanoes. Magic. Alchemy. Witchcraft. Secrets.
How do we attune with Power? That phrase, “It’s lonely at the top,” may keep us from claiming our power - why would we want it if we can’t share it? Power often separates rather than unites. Power Struggles. Powerlessness. Overpowered. Power Trips.
And yet, the ultimate, most positive outcome for our soul is true empowerment when we stand complete in and of our power. It’s undeniable and it feels really, really good.
Work with your Chart
Do you have any planets, asteroids, or celestial bodies in your natal chart from 3°-5° Aquarius? How about 3°-5° Leo, Scorpio, or Taurus? Any other sign?
This Pluto retrograde is inviting you to slow down - that crash on the highway? Pay attention! Times of upheaval and change are painful and necessary. Without change, there is no growth, no evolution. Take a trip in the catacombs of your mind, or birth a new project. It’s not about bad and good, positive or negative. Evolution is a process that begins with an unearthing. Revelations. Awareness. Attention.
Pluto’s orbit is not standard, and we are now in one of its slower periods - 20 years in the sign of Aquarius. (As a reference point, Pluto transits Scorpio for only 11 years). The effect in astrological terms is that Pluto has longer retrograde periods and spends more time hovering over every single degree in Aquarius. Back and forth and back and forth. There is no getting away from its effect. Pluto transits last years, and as an astrologer friend once told me, “Pluto always wins.”
Pluto in Aquarius forces us to work over the long haul - it’s a marathon, especially for fixed signs.

Full Moon in Scorpio on May 1, 2026
In this Full Moon chart for the USA, the Moon in Scorpio at the bottom of the chart opposes the Sun in Taurus. Pluto is in the west in the 7th house. It is not yet retrograde, but it is barely moving in the sky. Its stationary power radiates around this chart.
We, the people, are demanding a change in the power dynamic. Starting small, as each reclaims their power in all parts of life, the effect in the collective will amplify and be undeniable.
